The Bella Desgagnés obtains level 3 at “ICI, ON RECYCLE” program

Rimouski, July 14th, 2016 – Relais Nordik announced today that as a result of its participation in Recyc-Québec’s ‘ “ICI ON RECYCLE! “ Recognition Program, the Bella Desgagnés vessel has obtained a Certificate of Performance level 3, Silver Honours.

The purpose of this program is to ensure that waste management efforts made by corporations are acknowledged. It consists of 3 levels: 1. Commitment, 2. Implementation and 3. Performance. The Silver Honours certificate means that the Bella Desgagnés attained a global rate of reclamation of generated residual materials of 80% to 89%.

This certificate accords perfectly with Relais Nordik’s mission of offering services aboard the Bella Desgagnés which respect the environment as well as promoting sustainable tourism activities to its clients. The villages served on Anticosti Island and the Lower North Shore have the privilege of being located in a pristine natural environment which the Company feels must be protected.

Francis Roy, Relais Nordik’s President and General Manager thanked the members of the crew working aboard the Bella Desgagnés as well as the shore-side staff for the efforts undertaken towards improving the vessel’s environmental performance. He noted that “their tenacity and determination have allowed us to meet and even exceed our initial goal of obtaining the Bronze level. We are therefore very proud that our employees obtained the silver level”.

Mr. Roy also went on to mention that the obtention of this certificate was a necessary step towards meeting the Company’s commitment to environmentally sustainable development or “Bella verde”. Recognizing that the initial challenge has been met, the Company is now committing to the ongoing challenge of operating to these standards on a continuing basis. Management and employees understand that it is crucial that the culture change in its processes that has allowed the Bella to excel in this program must become part of the permanent and daily routine.

The ”ICI, ON RECYCLE” program is managed by the RECYC-QUÉBEC organization. Information is available on the French-language web site at: http://www.recyc-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/client/fr/programmes-services/progreconnaissance/ici.asp

Relais Nordik provides the maritime transport service for passengers and supplies to the Anticosti Island and Lower North Shore. Its mission goes well beyond its usual service since its vessel, the M/V Bella Desgagnés, brings supplies to the remote villages.
