Tadoussac innovates with its Library-Beach

For the past two summers, the municipality of Tadoussac has hosted Quebec’s first-ever Library-Beach, an initiative of Dany Chartrand created in 2014. The concept involves a reading area right on the beach (complete with beach chairs and beach umbrellas) overlooking the St. Lawrence River. Completely free of charge, Library-Beach’s mission is to encourage an interest in reading and to promote literature (from Quebec in particular). The only condition is that that books must be read on the beach.

Ms. Chartrand lends out more than 300 of her own books and coordinates the activity with the help of more than 15 volunteers. Everyone can enjoy Library-Beach, since the reading material available includes novels, comic books, poetry, youth literature, etc.
