MIB gives conference to St. Lawrence ZIP Committee

The Maritime Information Bureau (MIB) will be in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield today to give a free conference on shipping organized by the St. Lawrence ZIP Committee (zone d’intervention prioritaire – area of prime concern).

Conference
Shipping is the cornerstone of Québec’s development, contributing to the Québec and Canadian economies and transporting the majority of goods we use every day. Under the Maritime Strategy, shipping will play an even greater role in future. The conference will outline shipping, describe its repercussions and discuss its social and environmental impacts. The conference will be given by the MIB, a St. Lawrence Economic Development Council (SODES) initiative launched in June 2015 and mandated to facilitate disseminating relevant, factual information about the Québec marine industry to elected officials and the public.

St. Lawrence ZIP Committee
The St. Lawrence ZIP Committee is a body for environmental cooperation founded in 1993 and mandated primarily to protect, restore and enhance the St. Lawrence River by giving the public access to it again. The St. Lawrence ZIP Committee belongs to a network of 12 committees grouped under the umbrella organization Stratégies Saint-Laurent and active along the entire St. Lawrence.
