Julie Gascon appointed Assistant Commissionner

Julie Gascon was appointed Assistant Commissioner, Central and Artic Region, and took up her new duties with Transport Canada on August 10, 2015. Over the last three years, Ms. Gascon was Executive Director, Domestic Vessel Regulatory Oversight and Boating Safety with Transport Canada.
Graduating from the Canadian Coast Guard College in 1998, Ms. Gascon began her career in the public service as a navigation officer in the CCG’s Pacific Region. She then worked in commercial shipping on vessels carrying crude oil and passengers to obtain her Master Mariner certification. In 2005, she joined Transport Canada, where she held various positions such as Marine Safety Senior Inspector, Executive Director of the Marine Safety Secretariat and Director and Executive Director of Domestic Vessel Regulatory Oversight and Boating Safety. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the Université de Montréal and a bachelor’s degree in nautical sciences technology from Cape Breton University.

Marie-France Daoust

Marie-France Daoust is Director of Corporate Affairs at the Société de développement économique du Saint-Laurent (Sodes). With more than 15 years’ experience in entrepreneurship, 10 years in strategic management within the Quebec government and 5 years in public and government affairs, she stands out for her leadership and ability to bring people together. In her role, she is responsible for developing business growth strategy, forging strategic partnerships, and mobilizing maritime organizations around today’s major issues.
