Green Marine Program Manager
Position Description

Green Marine is an environmental certification program for the North American maritime industry. It is a voluntary, transparent and inclusive initiative that addresses a number of key environmental issues. Participants include a wide range of maritime industry stakeholders including ship owners, ports, cargo terminals and shipyards. To receive their certification, participants must benchmark their environmental performance on a yearly basis through the program’s self-evaluation guides, have their results verified by an accredited external verifier and agree to publication of their individual results. The Program Manager position will be based in Eastern Canada and will report directly to the Executive Director based in Quebec City.

Position responsibilities

  • Support Green Marine participants in implementing program requirements including reporting and verification elements
  • Coordinate advisory committee and working group activity
  • Develop/review the Green Marine program requirements in collaboration with the other program managers
  • Prepare program documentation
  • Promote Green Marine
  • Assist in recruiting additional program participants and partners
  • Assist in establishing partnerships with relevant governmental agencies and
    environmental NGO stakeholders

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Three to five years’ experience in project management and/or industry sustainability programs or other related fields
  • Academic and/or career background in environmental science, political science, economics or other relevant discipline
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English; communication skills in French would be a definite asset
  • Knowledge of the marine industry and of environmental issues would be a definite asset
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required
  • Ability to act independently with tact and diplomacy, rapidly analyze and solve problems, and handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously with attention to detail
  • Office technology proficiency

Work environment:

  • Ideal candidate will be located in Quebec / Ontario region with some flexibility for work site options.
  • This is a full-time position with the candidate expected to work a normal work schedule from Monday through Friday.
  • Position will entail the need for additional hours of work from time to time as well as travel time outside of normal working hours to meet the objectives of the position.
  • Occasional travel within Canada and the U.S. required for on-site visits and stakeholder meetings.
