The Port of Québec presents the Grand Voyage des Marchandises

Québec City, May 15, 2024 – The Port of Québec today unveiled its very first exhibition, entitled “Le Grand Voyage des Marchandises”, in the presence of Mario Girard, President and CEO of the Port of Québec, and Bruno Delsalle, Director General of the International Association of Port Cities (IAPC). The free exhibition will be displayed inside a container on the port’s quayside during the summer season. It will offer a fun and interactive experience, designed to introduce visitors to the fascinating world of goods transiting through the Port.

Demystifying the Port and its activities
A multi-disciplinary team at the Port of Quebec undertook this project with the aim of raising public awareness of the role the port plays in their daily lives. The initiative takes the form of an immersive outdoor exhibition installed on the port territory. It retraces the journey of certain goods from their place of origin to their final destination, with a strategic passage through Quebec City. This showcase illustrates how many of these products, after being transformed, are reintroduced into our daily consumption. The exhibition is designed to demystify port operations, while highlighting their contribution to the local and national economy, as well as to the daily lives of the citizens of the Quebec City and Lévis region.

This project is part of the multiple spaces that will form the Espaces portuaires de Québec. Les Espaces portuaires de Québec will be part of a mosaic of physical and virtual spaces.
Through permanent sites, ephemeral squares, events, educational programs and field visits tailored to different audiences, they will offer citizens and visitors the opportunity to discover, experience and better understand contemporary port activity.

“As a port in the heart of the city, we’re always looking to offer interesting, high-quality activities to the surrounding communities. Le Grand Voyage des Marchandises shows that an entire economy depends on the Port of Québec’s ability to connect one continent to another. No less than 80% of all the goods that surround us transit by ship: there are liquid and solid bulk goods, but we’re also talking about processed products, from the telephone we use every day, to medical equipment, to the food we eat, or even certain building or road components. It’s precisely information like this that people will be able to discover when they visit this exhibition.”
– Mario Girard, President and CEO, Port of Québec

Le Grand Voyage des Marchandises opens its doors at Pier 22, just off Place des Canotiers, until the end of August. The exhibition will then move to the Pier 21 area, just a few steps from the Port of Québec Agora, for a limited period. Le Grand Voyage des Marchandises is open 7 days a week, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., for an immersive and captivating experience.
