Nearly $15.5 million for the Montreal Port Authority

Montreal, June 23, 2022 – Chantal Rouleau, Minister of Transport and Minister responsible for the Greater Montreal Area, is pleased to announce that the Montreal Port Authority (MPA) has been awarded $15,499,000 in financial assistance to support the construction and repair of marine infrastructure.

This sum will be used to carry out three projects: the rehabilitation of Pier 28, the rehabilitation and widening of the Pie-IX railway bridge, and the continuation of construction work on the overpass above Notre-Dame Street. These projects will help support intermodality by maximizing links with land transport in an eco-responsible way, improve the flow of road traffic in the port and reduce truck traffic on the local road network.

Quotes
“I salute the Montreal Port Authority, which has already been working for some time on upgrading these facilities, which are essential to its day-to-day operations. This government support confirms a common ambition of our maritime vision, Avantage Saint-Laurent, which aims to improve the river’s competitive position by optimizing maritime and port activities. Added to this is our desire to serve the companies of the metropolitan region through a more efficient logistics chain. I would add that we are sensitive to the concerns of people in the sector. From this point of view, the overpass project will reduce traffic congestion and greenhouse gas emissions in the neighborhood by removing a good number of trucks from Notre-Dame Street.”

“The Quebec government’s contribution is essential to maintaining our competitiveness, for the benefit of the companies that rely on the Port of Montreal for their growth, and for the society in which we are anchored every day. The Port of Montreal has all the necessary capacities to face today’s global competitiveness, and this investment gives us the means to be even stronger to be the port of tomorrow.”
