Quebec City, May 30th, 2017 — Desgagnés continues its significant fleet renewal and carrying capacity expansion program by adding the M/V Acadia Desgagnés, a multi-purpose cargo ship built in 2013. With a length of 115 meters, she has a deadweight of nearly 11,400 tons and a carrying capacity of over 14,000 cubic meters at a draft of 8.46 metres. She is equipped with 2 cranes of 40 tons capacity each, which can be combined to lift a total of 80 tons, holds an Ice Class equivalent to Lloyd’s 1D and can reach a speed of 13 knots.

“The Acadia Desgagnés is perfectly suited for general cargo and dry bulk transportation. Although certified and capable of sailing international waters, her main trading market will be the Atlantic provinces, the St. Lawrence Seaway and the Great Lakes”, says Mr. Louis-Marie Beaulieu, Desgagnés’s Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, who also specifies: “The purchase of the Acadia Desgagnés has given us the opportunity to renew and to secure various significant contracts in the medium term, including the resulting economic spinoffs”. Let us recall that the operation of such a ship generates over 25 direct jobs and millions of dollars in annual economic impact because of expenses and procurement predominantly made locally, in addition to the economic spinoffs and indirect employment.
This Desgagnés Fleet’s new ship bears the name Acadia Desgagnés in honour of the main regions where she will trade and sail proudly, the four eastern provinces of Canada: Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick.
